How To NEVER Make More Than Ten Dollars An Hour
It’s all in the way you think! The sooner you realize that, the faster your income will grow.
.
A while back I saw a post in my Facebook newsfeed. It had something to do with the merits of a job as a babysitter.
Being a guy who used to use them for my kids, I appreciate the value of a good babysitter. Someone who kept our kids safe and entertained.
And that value? About four or five bucks an hour, at least back in the old days!
So I responded…that’s what the market will pay…eight dollars an hour, give or take. (I adjusted for inflation.)
Boy, was I corrected quickly! It’s all the way up to ten bucks an hour!
Here’s my take on it: it’s great money…if you’re a teenager, or someone who can take that ten dollars an hour and feel like the richest kid on the block.
For someone who wants to live life abundantly, with the liberty and choices that money brings…what’s the difference?
It never occurred to the people jumping up and down on me about the two dollar difference, that their MINDSET was off.
Well, it wasn’t “wrong.” But their thoughts and emotions about money and what they were worth were locking them into an income limit of ten dollars an hour.

Here’s my question to you…
What are your thoughts and feelings locking you into?
Where is your mental and emotional ceiling on…
* Money?
* Love?
* Security?
* Health?
You may not know the answer to that question, but I promise…you have one.
If you believe it’s possible to receive more than you have now…
If you believe you are worth more than you’re living now…
If you’re willing to start on something good, for a really small investment.
(Less than an evening’s worth of babysitting wages)
Pick up a copy of HOW TO RECEIVE.
If not, that’s fine. Everyone gets to live their life however they want, as long as they aren’t hurting
someone else.
But no belly aching about what you don’t have, at least not to me.
And no complaining about the economy or the job market.
Because believe it or not, when you learn HOW TO RECEIVE, you begin to create your own economy around you.

P.S. Know why babysitters – even good ones – don’t get more than ten bucks an hour (usually)? Supply and demand. If your sitter leaves, there are usually plenty of others to replace her (or him).
You are paid based on your leverage and your value in the marketplace.
Mostly you are paid on what YOU believe your worth is.
Because you will make a thousand big small choices that will determine how others respond to you…
…and how much value you bring to them…
…and how much money (and other good stuff) you’ll receive.
Decide if you want to receive more, by letting more of yourself come out to play!

You got that right, Lani! Good babysitters are hard to find. Goes back to finding what people want, then making yourself valuable… and hard to replace!

Great thought provoking post Larry. What’s interesting is that my wife provides child care for a family, and that’s exactly what she makes. It works for her because she takes care of one additional kid in addition to our two children, but the conversations that we have had about only making $10 an hour, well they get a little heated.
I’ve got a good paying job and my pay is much higher than that, but I still think that when I look at my salary I am still not being paid what I am worth. I think this “how much I earn per hour” is the biggest limiting factor in today’s society. It’s like Jom Rohn was told by his mentor that he shared on one of his audio CDs (paraphrase) , “when you work a job you get paid what the job is worth. When you work for yourself, you get paid what you are worth.” No truer words have been spoken. Most important of all, I want to teach my children that profits are better than wages.
Take care.
Aloha Larry, nice analogy with babysitting. As a mother, this is a hard job with constant care. So if you are able to find a good baby sitter keep them and pay them well. Because there are many variables involved, besides watching the kids.
I think besides being paid what you think you’re worth, you may be a novice and then get some experience behind your belt then you want to advance yourself, for the most part. I suppose this applies to everything in life. I’m glad I came by and thanks for sharing! Mahalo, Lani

I feel kind of sorry for that person arguing over $2 when you could help them create $200,000+ a year.
Your right, it’s all about the mindset baby!
Thanks for this post Larry
